The 450-hectare Mautu Discovery Forest is situated at the ending point of the northeastern monsoons, and thus it demonstrates lowering of the altitudinal distribution of plants. The forest is between 600 to 1,300 meters above the sea level, rich with tropical-zone and temperate-zone resources. The forest is limitedly developed, providing only basic facilities. This has helped to retain its primitive state, including Japanese cedar trees up to 40 years old.
The main scenic spots in the forest include: waterfalls (Hongqiao Waterfall, Mautu Waterfall, and Yuanqi Valley), old bayberry trees (Grandma Bayberry and Grandpa Bayberry), Luguang Elementary School, Sunshine Mushroom Farm, and Bamboo Forest Hiking Trail.
